This Month's Letter from the Vicar
June 2009
Dear Friends,
Many of you will have just returned from the first 'Outings for Everyone' of the year. I hope that you had some good summer weather, but even if you didn't I know that you will have enjoyed friendship and fellowship together. I place those words together and separately because really they speak of concepts which are linked but which are also different. We can have friendships with anyone and everyone - usually choosing people who come from the same background or have the same interests as our friends - but 'fellowship' while often involving friendship, is different. It is about having the same purpose in life - think of those intrepid hobbits, dwarves and elves in Tolkein's 'The Fellowship of the Ring' - whatever our background and interest. Knowing Jesus Christ and wanting to live for Him is what gives us true fellowship, even though we might have differences of character and background.
This month we have several opportunities for those two important strands of our lives. Of course we can enjoy every Friday in our church café, supplemented by a good helping of cakes, scones and crumpets and washed down with a cuppa. We want everyone, whatever their background, to enjoy being with us on those occasions. Our home groups, two in the evening and one in the afternoon, are another opportunity for getting to know each other and God.
I look forward to seeing you on one of these occasions.
Yours very sincerely,
Anne-Louise (Team Vicar)
